No way to sugarcoat it. May was dreadful. To add to the agony, April has been revised sharply downward as well. We had a statistical glitch (blame the publisher for pulling the wrong formula up one line) that made the numbers look better than they actually were. April stamp sales actually declined 13.56 percent. May was even worse, down 25.27 percent.
Other products fell 8.43 percent in April and 22.60 percent in May.
This was the worst month combined on record and the second worst for each of the two measures. Let's hope those little bits of optimism we hear about make it into real sales next month.
