BSA Innovation of the Year Award

Shachihata Inc. has received the Innovation of the Year award from BSA, the Business Solutions Association, for its ECO-GREEN campaign. The award, presented this year on October 6 at the BSA awards banquet in Orlando, Florida, goes to the company that has the most innovative product, display, promotion or idea. The winner is chosen by the office products industry using a combination of audience votes and balloting by the BSA Board of Directors.

"It was and always is a team effort," says Paul Ventimiglia, director of commercial sales. "It's also great knowing that we were selected not only by the BSA board of directors but also our peers in the industry."

Shachihata Inc. started "going green" in 2000 with the manufacturing process, including filtering debris and salt before it goes down the drain and out to sea, recycling solvents used to clean ink tanks and reusing scrap materials. Even the packaging uses soy-based ink. The company's focus is to develop ecologically sensitive products and services and use recycled or ecologically renewable materials wherever possible. The product line features popular custom stamp sizes, and the mounts introduced in 2009 have more than 50 percent recycled content by weight. The stamps join other environmental product lines including Artline ECO-GREEN markets.

Portable Handheld Label Printer

Brady Worldwide Inc. announces the launch of the BMP™21, a new portable printer offering one-handed operation, built-in features and more types of labels. Designed for the electrical, voice/data comm. and general industrial markets, the BMP21 is a thermal transfer printer that creates legible, high-performance labels for harsh working environments.

The printer offers ease-of-use features that include a dual cutter operated by push buttons, eliminating user fatigue and allowing for one-handed cutting. It offers a label retention feature that keeps the label from falling on the floor after it is cut, ensuring that the labels stay organized on the job site.

Additional features include multifunctional accessories such as magnet and built-in flashlight; label materials range from standard nylon, polyester and vinyl to self-laminating vinyl, heat-shrink sleeves and more.

The BMP21 printer can create labels for cables and wires, pipes, tools, bins, containers, faceplates, electrical panels, path panels, terminal blocks, instruments, racks and more.

New Mechanical Engraving Machine Functions

The new Gravograph IS 900 with IQ+ electronics provides point-and-shoot and handling of strips without length limits. It is designed for flat engraving of identification plates or cutting and engraving of sheets of any material, including aluminum.

Gravograph-registered ergonomic design enables it to handle any length of strip on a 660mm x 460mm engraving area. Material feed can also be from the open area via the back of the machine, allowing placement almost anywhere in a workshop.

IS 900 features the terrain follower, allowing the machine to engrave accurately even on non-flat surfaces, following the shape and height of the sheet with an optical sensor. The "point-'n-shoot" function uses a laser pointer for visual positioning of the engraving on the item and simulating the engraving work before executing the programmed task.
